My name is Wendy Acosta and I am a third grade teacher at Westside Elementary School.  After graduating from Brooklyn College in New York with a bachelors degree in Elementary Education, I decided to join the United States Air Force.  This was quite an exciting experience because I had an opportunity to live in California, Mississippi, Germany, and the wonderful state of Georgia. During my Air Force career, I attended Oklahoma University where I attained a dual masters degree in Education Administration and Human Relations.  Having served for 26 years in the Manpower and Personnel career field, I am truly "proud to serve again" via the Georgia Troops to Teachers Program.

Stepping into my classroom daily continuously reminds me that I am fulfilling my lifelong dream of becoming an elementary school teacher.  I enjoy keeping my students engaged and always encourage them to give their very best at all times.  My expectations remain high and I realize  that my goal is simply to help my students set and achieve goals for themselves so that they too, will ultimately find their purpose in life.  I deeply appreciate continuous parental support because it is so crucial to student success.

During my ninth year of teaching at Westside, I completed an education specialist degree in Curriculm and Instruction from Piedmont College.  With these fresh insights, I foster good critical thinking skills, character development and collaboration, teach the required state standards, and provide a positive learning environment for students, while maximizing their learning and preparing them to be college and career ready. Students are wonderful blessings! Thank you parents and guardians for your support.
