Bio

Hi! My name is Mrs. Gilbert! I will be your 5th grade teacher for the 2023-2024 school year. I began my teaching career 25 years ago, and have been teaching 5th grade in Colorado for the past twelve years.  I can’t be any more excited for the year to come as I learn more about Georgia and this wonderful new community!  GO WILDCATS!

My husband of 25 years and I are parents to two children:  my oldest child, Jackson, is in college in Minnesota, and my youngest, Edda, will be heading to SCAD in the fall as a freshman, so we are about to be empty nesters!  I grew up right outside of Minneapolis and St. Paul in Minnesota. My parents, brother, and sister still live there, and my son is heading there to college in a week, so I make it back frequently! I loved to swim, read, ski, and play the French Horn as a youngster. Some of my favorite memories from growing up involve time spent at the family cabin.

My educational path has been an exciting one! After graduating from high school, I decided to start my college career at Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana where I later graduated in 1998 with a degree in Education. I then decided to go back to school and I received my Masters degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Chapman University in California.  I also hold a certificate in administration from Western Colorado University.  I believe learning is a life-long pursuit, so I take as make courses as possible during the school year and summer to stay up on the latest educational practices.
